Baseball Unable to Take Down Otters On the Road During Saturday Double Header

SEASIDE, CALIF.- The Seawolves took to the field for day two of their series against the Otters of Cal State Monterey Bay. Unfortunately, a gritty effort by the Seawolves was unable to take down their conference rivals. Regardless, the boys will be back on the field Sunday for another shot to take down the Otters on the road!
Game One: SSU 2, CSMB 8

The first game of the day was an interesting one with Sonoma finishing with five hits to the Otters seven. Many of the familiar faces for the Seawolves were able to make good contact at the place with Joey Replogle, Evan Merz, Vinny Lencioni, Gabriel Tapia and Ben Saitz all getting on the boxscore. Saitz had the biggest hit of the game with a triple while Lencioni and Tapia also were able to draw walks as well.

The Seawolves two runs would come courtesy of catcher Chris Ortiz in the second inning who doubled down the left field line to drive in both Lencioni and Tapia whose aforementioned walks got them on base. Ortiz got off to a hot start for the season but cooled down a bit recently. Yet, in a good spot to get "right" Ortiz has added two RBI's and pushed his season total of RBIs to six.

Game Two: SSU 2, CSMB 4

The second game of the day was a close battle with the Seawolves striking first in the first inning thanks to an Evan Merz single that drove in Shane Callison who singled during the previous at-bat. Merz would add another hit to his resume bumping up his series total four and his season long batting average up to .395.

Aryonis Harrison also helped drive in a run as the Seawolves as they looked to rally late into the sixth inning. Max Shabestari would draw a walk to get on base and eventually advance to third off another Ortiz double. Harrison drove one out deep to right field as a sacrifice fly to get Shabestari home and get the Seawolves to two runs.

On the mound Blake Janowicz would go the distance pitching all six innings of the game. The veteran faced 24 batters forcing 16 into either ground outs or flyouts. He also only walked a single Otter.
