Alexis Chappelle

Alexis Chappelle joined the Sonoma State women's basketball coaching staff upon the 2023-24 season. Chappelle was named as a second assistant under head coach Des Abeyta. She joins SSU from the Bradley Beal Elite basketball academy in St. Louis, Missouri where she was a Player Development coach for the women's side. Chapelle's coaching career started back in 2016 where she was the assistant varsity coach at Hazelwood Central High School in Florissant, Missouri. From there, she would work her way up the ranks to the head freshman coach on the men's side and head the Player Development department for the program at Hazelwood Central.

Chappelle also had a successful college career as she was a part of Division I member Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She played two seasons with the Cougars totaling 61 games and over a thousand minutes played. She led her team in assists during the 2013-14 season and was also an All-Academic team recipient. Chappelle would finish her bachelor degree at the University of Missouri St. Louis and graduate with a degree in Media Studies in 2017.

Chapelle would then return to coaching at Hazelwood Central where she built the program into a powerhouse. They would be crowned four-time District Champs dating back to 2016. After her coaching stint at Hazelwood Central Chappelle would start with the Bradley Beal Elite Academy in March of 2023.

Chappelle grew up in St. Louis and went to Hazelwood Central High School from 2009-2013. There she was a decorated player, belonging to the 1,000 point club and was a First Team All-State recipient. She was also a two time First Team All-Conference recipient and was named the Suburban North Player of the Year in 2013. Chappelle had this to say about joining the Sonoma State women's basketball program:

California has its own style of basketball, and being from the Midwest I am excited for the opportunity to get a different perspective and add it to my own knowledge of the game. The scenery is nice, the weather is wonderful and the people are even more incredible. Sonoma State has such a home-like feel to it, and it is rich in culture and is so tight knit that moving 30 hours away seemed like the perfect decision for me" (Chappelle).
