Sonoma State men's golf alumnus Matthew Medeiros joins the men's golf program as an assistant coach to Val Verhunce for the 2021-22 season. Medeiros was a member of the men's golf program from 2012-2015 where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Wine Business. Medeiros made a splash with SSU during his 2012-13 freshman season where he earned Freshman of the Year honors and was named to the All-CCAA team at the end of the year. 

Medeiros_bio.jpgDuring the 2012-13 season, Medeiros recorded his best individual performance at the Sonoma State Invitational at Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club where he shot a staggering 6-under in three rounds of action. His first round 64 (-8) would be his lowest round of the year and help earn him a second place individual finish as he fell in a three-way playoff.

Later that year, Medeiros would turn in a 2-under (214) to earn him a top-10 finish at the CCAA Championships. The Seawolves would take third place in the postseason tournament and qualify for the NCAA Regionals in Dupont, Washington.

follwoing year as he recorded a 1-under (215) to secure himself yet another 2nd pace individual finish. His season round low would come at the Cal Baptist Invitational where he recorded a 68 (-4) in the teams second round and finished inside the top-15 individually.

Since graduating from Sonoma State, Matthew Medeiros has been a consistent coaching figure in the Petaluma area as he ran Petaluma's Golf and Country Club junior program for three years as well as coached for Nike Golf Schools for three straight summers.   

 "I'm excited to return to my alma mater and reunite with Val. I'm excited to get back and help build comradery with the team and help them succeed in any way that I can. I’m a high character person, and I'm going to do all I can to get SSU another National Title."


NomaNation is excited to welcome back assistant coach Matthew Medeiros to the men's golf program. The Seawolves will resume competition this fall and have their sights on another NCAA National Championship appearance in the spring of 2022.
