Jared Chasey joined Sonoma State University in April 2018, making the 2024-25 academic year his 7th as the Deputy Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. In addition to serving as Senior Compliance Administrator, Chasey serves as a member of the department’s senior leadership team and has taken lead on several strategic projects during his time with the Seawolves.
Chasey represents Sonoma State University on various conference, regional, and national committees. These include:
-
National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC) Board Member (July 2023 - Present); Chair of the Division II Reasonable Standards Committee
-
CCAA Executive Council Member (April 2018 – Present); Administration Subcommittee
-
CCAA Strategic Planning Committee (August 2023 - Present)
-
NCAA Men’s Golf Regional Advisory Committee (RAC), West Region (August 2021 – May 2024)
Chasey is also a graduate of various professional development programs, most notably the NACDA Senior Administrators Mentoring Institute, as well as the California State University (CSU) Leadership Academy.
Sport Supervision and Hiring Coaches
Chasey currently serves as the Sport Supervisor for Men’s Basketball, Women’s Basketball, Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Golf, Women’s Golf, and Women’s Track & Field. All six programs have seen success and/or growth during these past seven years. Women’s Basketball has earned a spot in the CCAA Tournament every season since Chasey’s arrival to SSU. Additionally, Men’s Golf has won a CCAA Championship and an NCAA Regional Championship, as well advanced multiple times to the NCAA Championship Tournament. And, in 2024, Women’s Cross Country had its highest finish at the CCAA Championship in the NCAA Regional Championship meets in over 20 years.
Chasey chaired the search committees that resulted in the hirings of Coach Des Abeyta (Women’s Basketball), as well as Coach David Lawrence Jr. (Women’s Cross Country, Women’s Track & Field).
Championships
During his time at Sonoma State, Chasey has served as Championship Director for many of the championship events hosted by SSU. This includes the 2023 Men’s Golf NCAA Regional Championship, which Sonoma State won to advance to the NCAA National Championship. Additionally, Chasey served as Director for the 2024 CCAA Golf Championship and the 2024 CCAA Cross Country Championship.
Prior to arriving at SSU, Chasey had extensive experience volunteering at multiple NCAA Championship events hosted in Indianapolis, IN, including the 2015 NCAA DI Men’s Final Four and the 2016 NCAA DI, DII, and DIII Women’s Final Four.
Strategic Partnerships & Revenue Generation
Chasey has served an integral role in the department’s efforts to develop strategic partnerships with local businesses, as well as national brands. He is responsible for securing the department’s two largest sponsors, Alaska Airlines and Hotel Centro, as well as negotiating and managing the department’s current department-wide apparel contract with Under Armour and BSN Sports.
Chasey also serves as the department’s liaison to the University Box Office, which supports SSU Athletics in their ticket sales efforts and camp/clinic operations. These revenue streams are critical to supporting the student-athlete experience at SSU. Â
Branding, Licensing, and NIL
In October 2022, SSU Athletics announced its first-ever licensing program through a partnership with Nexus Licensing. This contract, which is managed by Chasey, allows the department to generate revenue from the use of SSU Athletics logos and marks. Through this strategic partnership, the department was able to launch a redesigned logo and associated branding. Additionally, SSU Athletics was the first in the CCAA (and one of the first across Division II) to begin working with licensees who specialize in NIL merchandise. Athlete’s Thread and Influxer provide opportunities for SSU student-athletes to earn income on the use of their Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) while permissibly utilizing the brand of SSU Athletics. Â
Facility Master Planning
Chasey has maintained the importance that athletics facilities play in the recruitment, retention, development, and the graduation of student-athletes at Sonoma State. It is the reason why he played an active role in the development of the Athletics Facilities Master Plan. This plan serves as the framework for all future facility projects and is meant to support the university’s efforts in getting the major gifts required to make these plans a reality. While this master plan details new/upgraded facilities for all sports, it more importantly addresses the immediate needs of the department’s outdoor field sports. This portion of the plan is called the Seawolves Village and incorporates innovative concepts that are aligned with the strategic priorities of the department, as well as values of the university, including sustainability, equity, and belonging.

Academic Excellence
Chasey serves on the university’s Eligibility Certification Committee. While the primary responsibility of this committee is to certify the eligibility of student-athletes to participate in intercollegiate athletics, the group also acts as a think tank that implements initiatives to support eligibility, retention, and graduation efforts. On average, SSU student-athletes have a higher cumulative GPA and federal graduation rate than the general student population. Further, when comparing the NCAA Academic Success Rates among the CCAA membership, the department takes great pride in finishing in the top quartile nearly every year. In November 2024, Chasey and the Eligibility Certification Committee announced they were establishing a chapter of Chi Alpha Sigma as a way to recognize the academic achievements of the department’s high-achieving student-athletes.
Progressive Leadership Experience
Prior to arriving at Sonoma State, Chasey spent nearly seven years at Indiana University-Indianapolis (IU Indy, formerly IUPUI). He joined IU Indy Athletics in January 2012 and was promoted to Associate A.D. for Compliance in December 2016. He oversaw IU Indy's entire compliance department, was responsible for monitoring the eligibility of more than 250 student-athletes and formerly served as the athletics department's sport supervisor for the golf and volleyball programs.
Chasey began his time at IU Indy Athletics as the department’s Assistant Director of Compliance. He was responsible for all monitoring systems, including recruiting activities, playing and practice seasons, outside competition, and awards and benefits. Additionally, he provided coaches and staff with rules education and interpretations. He served as webmaster for the compliance office website and managed the daily compliance operations. Chasey then served a brief stint as IU Indy’s Director of Internal Operations where he was the department’s primary liaison to the Athletics Affairs Committee, University Human Resources, Department of Housing & Residence Life, and the Office of Student Data, Analysis, and Evaluation.
Co-Curricular Opportunities For Students
Chasey has championed the co-curricular opportunities that exist for students through college athletics. He attributes his early experience in this industry to the opportunities available to him in college. He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Indiana University (‘09) and Masters Degree in Sports Industry Management from Georgetown University (‘11). At both schools, Chasey participated in internship programs with their respective athletic departments that provided the foundation for his career. It was student leadership, however, that introduced Chasey to intercollegiate athletics. Specifically, he was an active member of Indiana University’s Student Athletic Board, an organization dedicated to promoting athletics events across campus and enhancing campus spirit/pride around campus. In his senior year at Indiana University, Chasey was the Executive Vice President of the student organization. Throughout his career, Chasey has developed multiple internship programs for students, as well as served as an advisor to various student organizations/clubs.
Chasey, an Indiana native, currently resides in Rohnert Park, CA.
