Men's Basketball Edged By Tritons, 57-52

Keith Garner tallied 16 points in Saturday's loss to the Tritons
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sonoma State had a chance to tie in the waning seconds, but a Ben Washington three-pointer with four ticks left rimmed out as UC San Diego held on for a 57-52 win on Saturday night at RIMAC Arena in La Jolla.  The loss is the second straight for the Seawolves as they drop to 3-3, 0-2 CCAA.  The Tritons go to 3-3, 2-0 CCAA.

Saturday's game was tight the entire way with nine ties and neither team taking more than a six-point lead.

Late in the second half, the Tritons went up 51-45 on a Jordan Lawley three-pointer.  A three-pointer by Steven Pratt and a two by Keith Garner pulled the Seawolves close before UCSD surged ahead again.

With 25 seconds left, a Ben Washington layup would pull Sonoma to within two at 52-50.  The Seawolves were quick to foul, putting Kelvin Kim to the line for two.  He would hit just one, giving the Seawolves the ball with a three-point deficit.  With four seconds left, Washington got a good look, but it bounced out and UCSD gathered the rebound.  Jordan Lawley was fouled immediately and hit both free throws to set the final margin at 57-52.

Keith Garner led the Seawolves with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting.  He also had a team-high six rebounds in 31 minutes of action off the bench.  Washington had 11 points and Kyle Shandera blocked three shots.

Lawley had a big game for the Tritons, leading both teams with 27 points.  Shane Poppen had 11 points and seven rebounds in the win as well.

The Seawolves will head over to Reno on Tuesday for a non-conference tilt against the University of Nevada.
