ROHNERT PARK, Calif- The Sonoma State women's soccer team scored three times in the second half to pull away from Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday, cruising to a 5-1 win in CCAA action at Seawolf Field. The sixteenth-ranked Seawolves improve to 7-1-0, 3-0-0 CCAA. The Otters are now 0-7-1, 0-4-0 CCAA.
Freshman
Taylor Edmonds found the game's first goal in the 17th minute when she poked one in off an assist from her fellow freshman,
Taylor Colacion. The Otters would tie it up seventeen minutes later when Alyssa Mathesen scored from deep, making it a 1-1 game.
Head coach Luke Oberkirch said, "It took us a while to get into our game today." However, once they got going, the Seawolves were tough to stop.
In the 40th minute, the Seawolves edged ahead again as
Kayce Brawley intercepted the ball from a defender and quickly shuffled it into the goal.
Despite being out shot in the second half, the Seawolves outscored the Otters 3-0, thanks to a pair of goals from center back
Lindsay Catton. Freshman
Kiley Brown also scored and two of the goals were by way of assists from another freshman,
Libby Moyer.
Said Oberkirch, "We're getting points from up and down the roster. We're extremely deep throughout the whole team and that really comes to effect on Sundays."
Courtney Grixti went the first 73 minutes in goal before giving way to freshman
Emma Dearman. The Seawolves out shot the Otters 12-8 in the game and had a 10-3 edge in corners.
Sonoma State is back in action on Wednesday when they host Humboldt State in a CCAA North Division showdown.
