Women's Hoops Suffers Setback Against Toros

Freshman Marie Sweet scored a career-high 12 points on Saturday
CARSON, Calif-  Sonoma State dropped a 49-43 decision on Saturday night to Cal State Dominguez Hills at the Torodome in Carson, snapping a three-game winning streak in the process.  The Seawolves drop back below the .500 mark at 8-9, 4-6 CCAA.  The Toros go to 11-6, 6-4 CCAA. 

The Seawolves led for much of the first half before a late dry spell turned into a 9-3 Toro run, giving CSUDH a 25-23 hafltime advantage.  Sonoma scored just one point, on a three-pointer by Lauren Redfield, in the final seven minutes of the first half.

The Toros would not trail in the second half, though the Seawolves would make a run, pulling to within one point at 40-39 with 3:22 left.  CSUDH's Neka Mixon came up with back-to-back jumpers over the next minute, giving her team the finishing kick needed to put the game away.

Marie Sweet paced the Sonoma attack with a career-high 12 points.  The freshman was 4-for-7 on the night with four rebounds as well.  Jennifer Russo had eight points and Roxanne Rentschler led the way with five rebounds. 

Mixon was the game's leading scorer with 19 points.  Brittney Blanksenship had 11 points and Barbara Houston pulled down a game-high nine rebounds. 

The Seawolves return to action on Wednesday when they host rival Humboldt State in a big CCAA rivalry game.
