CHICO, Calif- Freshman Sterling Arterberry scored in double-figures for Sonoma State, but 24th-ranked Seattle Pacific raced out to an early 13-point lead and never looked back as the Falcons defeated the Seawolves, 78-58, on Friday night at the 50th annual Chico State Mac Martin Invitational, presented by Carl's Jr.

Sonoma State remains winless at 0-3 this season and Seattle Pacific, ranked 24th in this week's National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll, improved to 3-0.

The Falcons led from start to finish, jumping out to a 10-2 lead just three and a half minutes into the game. A three-pointer by Will Olsem closed the gap to five points but Seattle Pacific went on a 8-0 run to extend its lead to 18-5 with 13:04 remaining in the opening half.

Sonoma State fought back into the game with five minutes left before halftime when Jason Walter netted a jumper to close the Falcon lead to just six points at 26-20. However, it would be the closest the Seawolves would get for the rest of the night.

Seattle Pacific rode hot shooting performances by Brandon Larrieu and Chris Banchero who scored 32 and 20 points, respectively, as Larrieu went 10-of-13 from the floor and 9-of-10 from the free throw line. As a team, SPU hit 58 percent of its shots in the victory on 25-of-43 shooting. The Falcon defense also made its mark on Sonoma State, forcing 22 turnovers including 15 steals.

Arterberry had a game-high 10 points and six rebounds (five offensive) for the Seawolves and Patrick Scott led all players with nine boards. Sonoma State as a team hit 41 percent from the field and had a slight advantage on the boards (34-30).

Sonoma State will return to the floor tomorrow night to take on NCAA Division III member Lewis & Clark. The Seawolves and Pioneers are scheduled to tip off at 5:30 p.m. in the third game of the Mac Martin Invite at Art Acker Gym in Chico.
