ROHNERT PARK, Calif- A dry spell of over 17 minutes without a field goal in the second half doomed Sonoma State on Saturday night as the Seawolves lost to Cal State Stanislaus 35-31 in CCAA women's hoops action in Rohnert Park. The loss drops the Seawolves to 9-14, 5-11 CCAA while the Warriors improve to 12-11, 7-9 CCAA.
Both teams struggled to establish any offensive rhythm in the game, with Cal State Stanislaus shooting 23.9% and Sonoma State finishing 17% from the field.
The Seawolves took a 14-13 advantage at halftime, and pushed their lead to as many as eight points, 26-18 in the second half on two made free throws by
Jennifer Russo with 13:00 remaining. Sonoma would only score five more points as the Warriors closed out the final thirteen minutes on a 17-5 run, to ensure thieir second victory over Sonoma this year.
The Warrior's Lysandra Williams had 14 of her 17 points in the second half, including 13 in the final thirteen minutes when Stanislaus pulled ahead for good. Katie Busie chipped in eight points and lead Stanislaus with 10 rebounds.
Marie Sweet was the lone Seawolf to crack double figures, posting 10 points, one assist and a steal.
Lauren Redfield added eight points and grabbed six rebounds.
Sonoma State returns to action on Feb. 21 and 22, when they travel South to play Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino respectively.
