GLENDALE, Ariz- No. 19 Abilene Christian was too much for No. 30 Sonoma State to handle Friday night at the Paseo Tennis Center, as the Seawolves dropped a 7-2 decision to the Wildcats. The loss keeps Sonoma winless at 0-3, while Abilene Christain improves to 5-1.
The Wildcats swept through the doubles portion of the match to take a commanding 3-0 advantage. Starting things off for Abilene Christian was the pair of Jose Farias and Hutton Jones defeating Zell Sperry and Aaron Hamilton 8-2 at No. 3. Finishing off the doubles sweep was the duo of Bryan Joiner and Ryan Hudson, as they edged
Connor Olson and
Jordan Smith, 8-6, at the No. 1 doubles slot.
The lone points for Sonoma State were picked up by Conor Olson and
Quan Vu. At No. 1 singles, Olson outlasted Eldad Campbell 4-6, 7-5, (10-5) to post his first singles victory of the season. Vu only needed two sets to dispatch Karl Bein, 6-3, 6-3.
Sonoma State will continue play down in Glendale this afternoon.
