Women's Hoops Falls To Cal State Dominguez Hills

Lauren Redfield had nine points and five rebounds on Thursday night
ROHNERT PARK, Calif-  Sonoma State's offensive woes continued on Thursday night with a 48-36 defeat at the hands of Cal State Dominguez Hills in CCAA women's basketball action in Rohnert Park.  The Seawolves fall to 9-17, 5-14 CCAA with the loss while the Toros improve their post-season resume, improving to 18-8, 13-6 CCAA.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair with neither team able to establish an offensive presence.  The teams entered the break just one point apart, with the Toros leading 15-14.

In the second half, the Seawolves endured a rough stretch, scoring just two points in a six-minute span, allowing the Toros to take a six-point lead at 25-19.  Sonoma would trim the lead to two, but another cold stretch saw Dominguez Hills expand the margin to 12 at 37-25 with 5:43 left.

The lead would remain in double digits the rest of the way as the Seawolves had trouble cutting in to the Toro advantage.

The Seawolves shot just 30.6% for the game and they connected on just one of three free throw attempts.  Lauren Redfield and Stephanie Barnes each had nine points and five rebounds to lead Sonoma in both categories.

Neka Mixon had a big night for the Toros, pouring in 22 points and grabbing ten rebounds.  She also had three assists and three steals.  The Toros shot just 32.7% for the game, but their defensive effort made the difference.

The Seawolves will close out their season on Friday night when they host Cal State L.A..  It will be Senior Night and the Seawolves' two seniors, Lauren Redfield and Heidi Mertle, will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
