Men's Tennis Squeaks By Western New Mexico, 5-4

Jordan Smith notched two victories for Sonoma on Friday
POMONA, Calif- After a two week hiatus, the Sonoma State men's tennis team pulled out a thriller against Western New Mexico in Southern California Friday afternoon, edging the Mustangs 5-4. Sonoma improves to 4-7 overall on the season.

In doubles play, the Seawolves captured two of the three matches to take the early 2-1 lead. At the No. 1 doubles slot, Connor Olson and Jordan Smith teamed to take down Kyle Lynch and Valu Fu, 8-1. Sonoma secured the lead when Zell Sperry and Jeremy Heckley downed Emmanuel Hecher and Wilton Athius, 8-5.

Both teams split the singles matches, giving Sonoma the narrow 5-4 victory. Starting things off for the Seawolves was Jordan Smith at No. 5 dispatching Roman Salazar in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Sonoma secured victory when Heckley outlasted Flavio Rueda 6-4, 1-6, 6-2.

Sonoma State will continue their Southern California roadtrip tomorrow with a match against Cal Poly Pomona.
