Men's Tennis Posts Two Wins In Colorado

DENVER, Colorado- The Sonoma State men's tennis team picked up two victories over the weekend during their Colorado road trip, defeating Colorado State Pueblo, 7-2, and downing Mesa State, 7-2. The Seawolves improve their record against division II opponents to 6-4, and now stand at 7-9 overall.

Sonoma jumped out against Colorado State-Pueblo in their opening match, sweeping away the ThunderWolves in doubles play to secure the early 3-0 advantage. The Seawolves parlayed their doubles success into singles the round, taking four of six matches for the 7-2 victory.

Zel Sperry was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at No. 2, Jordan Smith defeated his opponent 6-4, 7-6 at No. 4, Quan Vu won 6-1, 6-0, and Scott Gaynor scored a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 6.

Against Mesa State, the Seawolves posted two wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots to open the match. The duo of Sperry and Heckley dispatched their opponents 8-2, while Anthony Rollins and Gaynor teamed for another 8-2 win for Sonoma.

Sonoma ensured victory over the Mavericks by notching five victories in singles play. At No. 2, Heckley tallied his first singles victory of the road trip, defeating his opponent 6-3, 4-6, 10-6. Rollins secured his first victory at singles this year, as he quickly took care of his foe 6-0, 6-0.

The Seawolves will continue play in the Rocky Mountains when they take on Colorado Christian.
