Sara Studer scored her first collegiate goal on Friday afternoon to help the Seawolves to a 1-0 victory over Cal State Stanislaus in the California Collegiate Athletic Association opening match for both teams. The Warriors suffered their first loss of the season, falling to 4-1-0 overall.
After a stalemate in the first half that saw only five shots between the two squads, Studer got the Seawolves on the scoreboard at 52:46 after taking a pass from
Libby Moyer and heading the ball past Stanislaus goalkeeper Millie Brown for what ended up being the game winner.
The Sonoma State defensive played tough all afternoon, only allowing two shots by the Warriors, both of which SSU netminder
Courtney Grixti saved. Senior
Tracy Webster led all players with two shots as the Seawolves had an 8-2 advantage in shots (6-2 on goal).
Brown kept the Warriors close throughout the match, coming up with five crucial saves. Kim DiNardo and Marissa Dunaway had the only two attempts on goal for Stanislaus.
Sonoma State will return to the pitch on Sunday to take on Chico State in a 2 p.m. kickoff at the Seawolf Soccer Field, following the men's soccer game at 11:30 a.m.
