Tejan Scores First Goal, Seawolves Win Big

Tejan scored his first collegiate goal on Sunday for the Seawolves.
ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Sonoma State University freshman Jomed Tejan scored his first collegiate goal in the 32nd minute and three other Seawolves scored as they defeated Notre Dame de Namur, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon to conclude the 2009 Seawolf Classic. The No. 12 ranked Seawolves wrapped up an undefeated non-conference schedule with a 3-0-1 record.

"Not only was I pleased with our starters today, but I was really happy with the second group that came in later in the match," head coach Marcus Ziemer said. "Not only did they work hard, but they moved the ball very well and played our system."

Sonoma State dominated throughout the first half, outshooting Notre Dame de Namur 11-1 before halftime. Tejan found the net at 31:52 after firing a shot from 25 yards out that got up and over NDNU's Joesph Mora for the first score of the game.

Sophomore Cam Vickers added to the lead at 38:33 when he took the rebound off sophomore Trevor Hurst's shot that hit the right post. The deflection found the feet of Vickers eight yards out on the left side as he blasted the shot for the 2-0 lead.

Junior Ryan Hall got in on the scoring early in the second half, netting one after taking a corner from Vickers at 49:53.

The Argonauts played tough in the final 45 minutes, matching the Seawolves in shots (6-6) but one final goal by senior Alan Grady, who deflected the ball off a shot attempt by junior David Holleran for the eventual 4-0 final score.

Senior Brook Johnson notched his 26th career shutout Sunday while making two saves in the victory.

Mora and Isiah Castro shared time between the posts for the Argonauts and made one save each. Cole Travis and Kellen Coffis fired two shots to lead NDNU.

Sonoma State wrapped up its non-conference schedule and will open up California Collegiate Athletic Association play against Cal State Stanislaus on Friday. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. at the Seawolf Soccer Field.

"We will enjoy this one for a day and then it is back to work to prepare for (Cal State) Stanislaus and Chico State next weekend," Ziemer added.

Despite scoring goals during the tournament, defenders Ryan Hall and Stuart Gallant were named as the 2009 Seawolf Classic Most Valuable Defenders. Keeper Brook Johnson was also named as the tournament's Most Valuable Goalkeeper. A complete list of the all-tournament team is included in the link below.
