SANTA ROSA, Calif- Freshman JJ McFarlin scored the game-winning goal with 11 seconds left in regulation, giving Sonoma State the 1-0 Senior Day victory over Humboldt State on a rain-soaked Sunday afternoon at Trione Fields in Santa Rosa. The Seawolves improved to 3-8-4 overall and 2-8-4 in the CCAA with the win and Humboldt State fell to 3-12-1 (3-10-1 CCAA).

"I am as proud of this team as any I have coached," head coach Luke Oberkirch said following the exciting victory. "They have stuck together during a tough season and we have played our best the last five games. What a great goal by JJ with just seconds left. It was a great day for our four seniors."

McFarlin's goal with time running down sent the Seawolves into utter jubilation after enduring 90 minutes of a torrential rain storm. It was a day in which Sonoma State celebrated its four seniors for their hard work and committment to the program and McFarlin made sure to give them one last home victory.

Seniors Courtney Grixti, Jaci Davey, Jocelyn Puga and Allison Kern were honored in a pre-game ceremony and three of them combined for six of the team's 15 shots on the day. Grixti recorded her 22nd career shutout, and third this season, making four saves between the posts.

It was relatively even statistically after the opening half of play as both teams attempted four shots. All four of Humboldt State's shots were stopped by Grixti.

In the second half, Sonoma State poured on the offense, attempting 11 shots to the Lumberjacks' one. It was the 11th shot that counted, as McFarlin netted her first goal of the season after taking a pass from Allie Maduell, who crossed the pass from the end line on the far side. The defense came up big again, allowing just five shots by Humboldt State on Sunday, four of which came in the first half.

With two matches remaining in the 2010 campaign, Sonoma State will finish up on the road with matches at San Francisco State on Friday and at Cal State Monterey Bay on Sunday.
