GLENDALE, Ariz- Wins in all three doubles matches set the tone on Monday as the 41st-ranked Sonoma State men's tennis team upset 30th-ranked Hawaii-Hilo 7-2 at the Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, Arizona. The win gives the Seawolves a 4-1 record, all of it coming against NCAA Division II opponents.
The Seawolves looked sharp in doubles play, getting wins at all three positions by scores of 9-8 (6), 8-6, and 8-3, respectively.
In singles play, things didn't look too good for the Seawolves after losses to their top two,
Connor Olson and
Aaron Hamilton. However, the bottom of the lineup stepped up big time and the match was clinched by freshman
Drexler Dy, who battled back from match point at No. 6 to win 6-2, 3-6 (11-9).
Taylor Bianco (No. 3),
Quan Vu (No. 4), and
Scott Gaynor (No. 5) were also victorious for the Seawolves in singles action.
The Seawolves are back in action on Saturday when they take on NCAA Division I foe, Santa Clara University.
