CHICO, Calif- Olivia Larkin and Nadia Williams scored just seven points to lead Sonoma State as host Chico State rolled to a 71-39 victory on Friday night at Art Acker Gymnasium, grabbing its fifth consecutive victory while clinching a berth into the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championship Tournament (16-8, 13-6 CCAA). The Seawolves have lost five of their last six, dropping to 10-14 overall and 8-11 in the CCAA.

Both teams fought back and forth from the opening tip as three ties and two lead changes gave Sonoma State the early 7-6 lead just five minutes in. However, Chico State would go on a brief 8-0 run to jump ahead 14-7. The Seawolves would continue to chip away at the Wildcat lead for several minutes and got to within four points on several occasions. It would be as close as the Seawolves would get the rest of the way.

Chico State led by 12 at halftime, 36-24.

That's when the flood gates opened for the Wildcats. Chico State rode a 11-0 run to open up the second half before Sonoma State could score its first points on a layup by Kelsey Wagner, ending nearly an eleven minute scoring drought, dating back to the first period of play.

The Wildcats would eventually stretch their lead to 32 points with 1:18 remaining, securing a berth in the CCAA tournament as they held Sonoma State to just 15 points in the final half of play.

Larkin and Williams led the way with seven points as the two combined on 6-of-14 shooting from the floor. Sonoma State shot 30.8 percent from the floor, but Chico hit half of its shots (26-of-52) en route to the blowout win.

Natasha Smith dropped in 16 points for the Wildcats and Pauline Ferrall added 13.

Sonoma State will return to the floor on Saturday night when they travel to Turlock to take on Cal State Stanislaus at 5:30 p.m.
