POMONA, Calif- The Sonoma State men's tennis team earned an important west region victory on Sunday afternoon against Cal Poly Pomona, beating the Broncos 5-4. The win lifts the Seawolves to 7-7 overall and solidifies their positioning for a fourth trip to the NCAA Championship Tournament in the last five years.
The Seawolves went up 2-1 after doubles play by taking the No. 1 and No. 3 matches. The lead was pushed to 4-1 early in singles, thanks to quick wins from
Connor Olson at No. 1 and
Scott Gaynor at No. 5
The Broncos would battle back to win the Nos. 2, 3, and 6 positions, leaving the match's outcome in the hands of freshman
Drexler Dy. Just one week removed from clinching a team victory against regional rival Hawaii-Hilo, Dy delivered again, winning 6-4 in the third set to take the No. 4 singles point, and the match for the Seawolves.
Up next for the 36th-ranked Seawolves is a road match against UC Davis on April 3rd.
