Box Score: Cal Poly Pomona 70, Sonoma State 50
ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Running neck and neck with Cal Poly Pomona in the opening half, Sonoma State matched its opponents with 26 points after 20 minutes of play, but the visiting Broncos outscored the Seawolves 44-24 in the second half to cruise to a 70-50 victory on Thursday night at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park. SSU has lost three straight, falling to 4-7 overall and 2-5 in the CCAA. CPP improves to 7-2 and 4-1.
The lead would volley back and forth with several lead changes and six ties in the first half, the last coming on a
Kristina Fahey jumper with two seconds remaining to make it 26-26. Sonoma would open up the second half strong, taking their biggest lead of the night on a free throw by
Jaclyn Bisordi with 16:22 left to make it 32-28. From there, it would be all Broncos.
Led by Sarah Semenero and the CCAA's leading scorer, Reyana Colson, the Broncos went on a 23-5 run that turned a four-point deficit into a 51-37 lead. The Seawolves would slice the lead back to six, but another run, this one 17-3 and spanning the final 6:27 of the game, ended any chance of a comeback.
Colson had a big night for the Broncos, finishing with 25 points and seven steals. La'Kenya Simon West had 12 points and eight rebounds and Semereno ended up with a career-high 11.
Sonoma State got 13 points from Bisordi and 12 from
Aly Henington. For the second game in a row, the Seawolves were undone by turnovers, with 23 miscues to just ten for the Broncos.
The Seawolves are back in action on Saturday when they host Cal State San Bernardino at The Wolves' Den. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm.
