Sara Studer's second goal of the season gave SSU the 3-2 overtime win.
BOX SCORE Sonoma State 3, Cal State East Bay 2 (OT)

HAYWARD, Calif- After Cal State East Bay scored two quick goals late in the second half to tie the match at 2-2 and force overtime, it took just four minutes into the extra period for Sara Studer to lift Sonoma State to a 3-2 victory on Sunday afternoon at Pioneer Stadium in Hayward. The Seawolves have won five of their last six matches and remain in first place by four points in the CCAA's North Division with a 8-3-1 record (8-5-1 overall). The Pioneers fall to 5-8-1 and 4-7-1 in conference play.

Just like they have done all season long, the Seawolves have found a way to score early. Sunday was no different. Ashley Martin gave Sonoma State the 1-0 lead at 13:57 after taking a pass from Gretel Amman and dribbling into the box to go one-on-one with Cal State East Bay goalkeeper Nina Cefalo. Martin won the battle, finding the back of the net for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Sonoma State would remain on the offensive, outshooting Cal State East Bay in the half, 9-6, but the Pioneers kept the Seawolves out of the net for the remainder of the period.

In the second half, Sonoma would jump ahead by two goals at the 61:37 mark when Elena Catania converted a shot after receiving a Taylor Colacion corner kick.

However, the Pioneers would respond, and they would respond again. At 74:11, Shianna Falk angled a free kick into the net after a Seawolf foul just outside the penalty box to cut the SSU lead in half at 2-1. Only two and a half minutes later at 76:51, SSU goalkeeper Alexis Sciacqua misplayed a ball into the box and Falk touched a pass to Eugenie Foote, who then sent home the equalizer.

The Seawolves outshot the Pioneers, 3-1, in the final 13 minutes of the match, but to no avail and the match went to overtime. It was then that Studer scored the golden goal, a shot that went up and over Cefalo's head, eventually crossing the goal line for Sonoma State's sudden 3-2 victory.

Taylor Edmonds led all players with five attempted shots and both Catania and Martin shot four apiece, combining for 13 of Sonoma State's 18 shots. Sciacqua faced 13 Cal State East Bay shots, allowing the two goals while making six stops.

Sonoma State, which is looking to make its first appearance in the CCAA Championship Tournament on Nov. 4-6 in Turlock for the first time since 2008, has four matches remaining in the regular season. However, next weekend's road trip will pose a tough test for the Seawolves, as they will face Cal State San Bernardino (8-5-1, 6-5-1 CCAA) on Friday and sixth-ranked UC San Diego (9-1-4, 8-1-3 CCAA) on Sunday. Following its trip to southern California, SSU will return home for the final two games of the regular season on Oct. 28 (vs. Cal State Stanislaus) and Oct. 30 (vs. Chico State).
