GLENDALE, Ariz- After a back and forth match that saw Sonoma State lead 4-3 with two matches left to finish, Hawai'i Hilo fought back to claim the 5-4 victory over the Seawolves at Paseo Racquet Center in Glendale, as part of the Grand Canyon Invitational that kicked off on Thursday. Sonoma State (0-4) will look for its first win of the season when it faces host Grand Canyon at 3 p.m. on Friday.

Drexler Dy and Bryce Keefer earned a narrow 9-8 (5) win over the Vulcans' No. 2 doubles duo of Justin Dugan and Stephen Royalty, but it would be the only doubles win by Sonoma State on the afternoon.

Down 2-1 after doubles, #Taylor Bianco notched a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Royalty at the No. 1 position to pull even with Hawai'i Hilo. Jimmy Manning then gave the Seawoves a narrow 3-2 lead after a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Kallen Mizuguchi at the No. 6 singles spot. However, the Vulcans' Ryan Coffey forced a third set against Daniel Henke and eventually earned the 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 win to pull even with Sonoma State again at 3-3.

Dy, who was the only Sonoma State player to claim victory in both singles and doubles play, gave the Seawolves a 4-3 lead after staving off two match points in the second set to win 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Stewart Hutton then rallied from a 4-0 deficit in the deciding third set to lead 5-4, giving Sonoma State hope to clinch the match victory, but Bryan Canavan ralled for three straight points to win the match 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 5. It was up to Scott Gaynor at No. 4, but Dugan was too much, winning the match at No. 4 singles (6-3, 5-7, 6-3) and the Hawai'i Hilo victory.

Sonoma State will play three more matches in Glendale, including Friday's tilt with Grand Canyon. First serve is set for 3 p.m. at the Paseo Racquet Center.
