Box Score: Cal Poly Pomona 85, Sonoma State 59
POMONA, Calif- Just as Sonoma State did when Cal Poly Pomona visited Rohnert Park in January, the Broncos returned the favor in Pomona. The hosts hit on 34-50 of their shots (65.2 percent) en route to a dominating 85-59 win over Sonoma State on Saturday at Kellogg Gym in Pomona. The Seawolves fall to 8-14 overall and 6-12 in the CCAA while the Broncos improve to 13-8 overall and 10-7 in conference play.
Cal Poly Pomona would hold Sonoma State to just 17 points in the opening 20 minutes of the game on just 6 of 23 shooting (26.1 percent) while amassing for 37 points on 15 of 23 from the floor in the opening half. It was over just as soon as it started, as the Broncos sprinted to a 25-8 lead with eight minutes left in the first half. The lead would grow to as much as 21 points (35-14), but Cal Poly Pomona would take a 37-17 lead into the halftime break.
Sonoma State wouldn't go away, though, as the Seawolves pulled to within 10 points at 44-34 with 13:50 remaining in the game, but it would be as close as they would get. The hosts would then extend their lead to as much as 26 points at 83-57 with a 1:27 left and settle for the 83-59 win.
Ben Washington would score 16 points for Sonoma State, but it would be the only Seawolf scoring in double-figures.
Steven Pratt chipped in with nine points and six assists.
Four Cal Poly Pomona players scored in double-figures, led by the 23 points of Kevin Menner. Tobias Jahn, who sat out the game against SSU in Rohnert Park, added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Sonoma State will play two more games on the road before returning home for the final two games of the regular season. The Seawolves wll face Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday in Seaside at 7:30 p.m. before facing San Francisco State on Saturday.
