GLENDALE, Ariz-
Stewart Hutton's victory at No. 1 singles would be the bright spot for the Sonoma State men's tennis team on Saturday as the Seawolves dropped an 8-1 decision to Western New Mexico in neutral court action at Ironwood High School in Glendale, Arizona. The Seawolves remain winless at 0-6 on the season.
Playing against a much-improved Mustang squad, the Seawolves fell behind early, dropping three points in doubles by scores of 8-1, 8-3, and 8-3.
Hutton would defeat his opponent, Francisco Damasio, 6-3, 6-1. The remaining matches were also decided in straight set victories, all for Western New Mexico.
The Seawolves will conclude play in Arizona on Sunday morning when they face a perennial west region power in Hawaii Pacific.
