Box Score: Sonoma State 55, Cal State Dominguez Hills 43
ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Behind a career-high 22 points from
Aly Henington, the Sonoma State women's basketball team closed out the regular season on Friday night with a 55-43 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park. The win locks the Seawolves into the eighth seed in next week's CCAA Championship Tournament, where they will face off with the No. 1 seed, Cal State Monterey Bay, on Tuesday in Seaside.
Knowing a victory would seal their first trip to the conference tournament since 2007-08, the Seawolves got out to a hot start with three three-pointers in the first five minutes to open up a 13-6 lead. Continuing their barrage of long range buckets, the Seawolves expanded the lead to 15, at 30-15 with five minutes left in the half.
Sonoma State hit six three-pointers in the first half, just two off the season-high for an entire game, to lead at the break, 30-20.
Cal State Dominguez Hills would chisel the score down to seven, but a strong finish, both on offense and defense, resulted in a comfortable 12-point win for the Seawolves. Over the last seven and a half minutes, the Seawolves held the Toros to just five points- all on free throws. The last CSUDH field goal came at the 7:43 mark.
Henington's 22 points came on 8-of-14 shooting from the field and 4-of-6 accuracy from beyond the arc.
Jaclyn Bisordi had 11 points, five rebounds, and five assists while
Taylor Vigil pitched in with ten points and eight rebounds.
The Seawolves didn't shoot particularly well (just 27.7%), but they were very dependable with the ball, turning it over just five times- a season best.
The Toros got 11 points from Hillarie Grant to lead the way. As a team, CSUDH shot 26.7% and they turned the ball over 15 times.
