LA JOLLA, Calif-
Stewart Hutton battled UC San Diego's Austin West in the opening set of the No. 6 singles, but eventually lost 7-6 as it was the closest set Sonoma State came to winning all afternoon, as the 24th-ranked Tritons cruised to a 9-0 shutout win over Sonoma State on Friday at Northview Tennis Courts. The loss keeps the Seawolves winless this season at 0-9 and the Tritons remain perfect at 14-0.
Hutton took his opening set to a tie at 6-6, but West was able to pull out the win at 7-6, then grabbed a 6-3 win in the second set to take the match win. The Seawolves couldn't get much else going on Friday, facing some of the nation's top players.
The duo of
Bryce Keefer and
Jimmy Manning played tough with UCSD's Chapman Chan and Jason Wall at the No. 2 doubles position, but Chan and Wall escaped with the 8-6 win, helping the Tritons stay undefeated this season.
Sonoma State will remain in southern California for the next two days to face Hope International in Fullerton on Saturday and Western New Mexico in La Jolla on Sunday.
