ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Despite wins at the bottom of ladder from
Stewart Hutton and
Anthony Rollins, the Sonoma State men's tennis team dropped an in-region battle to Hawaii-Hilo, 6-3 on Friday afternoon in Rohnert Park. The defeat drops the Seawolves to 5-14 on the season while the Vulcans improve to 5-13.
Hawaii-Hilo got out to a 2-1 lead in doubles play by taking the No. 2 and No. 3 matches. Sonoma's point came from a strong effort at No. 1 by
Taylor Bianco and
Daniel Henke.
In singles play, Sonoma came up empty in the top four spots. Hutton won at No. 5 (6-0, 6-1) and Rollins got the win at No. 6 (6-2, 6-3).
Drexler Dy was nipped in close match at No. 2 (6-4, 3-6, 10-8).
The Seawolves will close out play at the Sonoma State Invitational on Sunday against tenth-ranked UC San Diego. The match will mark the end of the dual match season for Sonoma State.
