ROHNERT PARK, Calif- Senior
Anthony Rollins cruised to a dominating victory at No. 4 singles, but the Sonoma State men's tennis team was unable to notch a win elsewhere, falling to No. 10 UC San Diego, 8-1, in the final dual match of the regular season at the SSU Tennis Courts on Saturday. The Seawolves fall to 5-15 this season.
Rollins defeated his opponent, UCSD's Vincent Nguyen, in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) to earn his last career home victory. He and three other seniors --
Scott Gaynor,
Stewart Hutton and
Bryce Keefer -- also saw their home careers come to an end.
Taylor Bianco and
Daniel Henke played a tough match at No. 1 doubles, but Erik Elliott and Austin West narrowly took the win, 9-7. Keefer and
Jimmy Manning also played tough at No. 2 doubles, but fell 8-6.
At No. 2 singles,
Drexler Dy forced a third set tiebreaker, but lost 11-9 in the extra frame. Keefer also took his opponent to a third set, but lost 10-5 in the tiebreaker.
Sonoma State will head to Ventura to compete in the 111th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament, which begins on Friday (Apr. 30).
