Jomed Tejan scored his fourth career goal in Sunday's loss at SF State.
BOX SCORE

SAN FRANCISCO- Jomed Tejan gave 21st-ranked Sonoma State a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute, but host San Francisco State scored two unanswered goals, including the game-winner with five minutes remaining in the second overtime, to defeat the Seawolves, 2-1, on a rainy Sunday at Cox Stadium in San Francisco. SSU suffers its second straight loss, falling to 5-3-0 and 4-2-0 in the CCAA. The Gators improve to 4-2-2 and 3-2-1 in conference play.

"It was a tough loss," SSU head coach Marcus Ziemer said. "This was one of the toughest weekends for us, in terms of travel, and we couldn't get the job done."

It was a sloppy match from start to finish. With overnight rain and a light dizzle for much of the first half, players from each team continued to slip and slide in every direction. With the difficulty of not being able to find their footing, both teams struggled offensively in the opening 45 minutes. San Francisco State held a slight advantage in shots (6-4) in the first half, but Sonoma State fired three of its four shots on target, forcing SFSU goalkeeper Eric Scolman to keep busy between the posts.

The Seawolves broke through for the match's first goal early in the second half, when Nico Spann passed up to Aaron Glover in the penalty box. Glover, while fighting off a Gator defender, sent the ball between two other defenders and Tejan was able to beat Scolman to the net at point blank range at 53:35.

Just under four minutes later, at 57:32, San Francisco State knotted the game at 1-1 when Edgar Villagrana slotted an attempt past SSU netminder Andrew Ball. With time ticking down, both teams got off several shots, including a final attempt by Taylor Varnadore at 88:52 that was saved by Scolman.

With a 16-10 lead in shots after 90 minutes of play, San Francisco State remained on the offensive, firing three of the five total shots in the first overtime. However, neither team would find the net and the match would advance to the second and final extra period. Five minutes into the second overtime, the Gators would net the golden goal, an unassisted score by Jose Monje after a breakaway, 1v1 with Ball.

Varnadore had a team-high three shots, accounting for three of SSU's 13 shots on the day. The Seawolves were outshot by the Gators, 21-13, led by the four attempts off the foot of Sasha Chalak. Ball made five saves while Scolman made seven.

"The team we played today is one of the best San Francisco State teams that I've ever seen," Ziemer added. "They played well when they needed to."

Ziemer finished by saying, "We'll bounce back next weekend. We have to."

Sonoma State will wrap up its four-match road trip next weekend, after trips to Humboldt State (Thursday at 3:00 p.m.) and Cal State Stanislaus (Sunday at 2:00 p.m.).
