SAN FRANCISCO- Despite a dominant first half and a 11-9 advantage in shot attempts for the match, the Sonoma State women's soccer team suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to host San Francisco State on Sunday afternoon at Cox Stadium in San Francisco. The Seawolves' win streak comes to an end, falling to 3-4-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the CCAA. The Gators, meanwhile, improve to 6-1-1 and 4-1-1 CCAA amidst their own three-match win streak.

"We played well, but just didn't finish today," SSU head coach Emiria Salzmann said. "The good news is that we just keep getting better and better. Over time, these close results will go our way."

It was a tale of two halves as Sonoma State controlled the entire first 45 minutes. The Seawolves outshot the Gators, 7-1, four of which were on target. However, neither team could find nylon and the teams went into the intermission at a scoreless tie.

San Francisco State turned the tables right out of halftime and eventually outshot Sonoma State, 8-4, the rest of the way. The Seawolves were able to hold the Gators off, but at 76:37, Nicole Vanni scored her CCAA-leading seventh goal of the season on a blast from 15 yards out that angled around SSU goalkeeper Alexis Sciacqua. It put SFSU up 1-0 and the score would eventually hold, snapping the three-match win of SSU.

Despite the shot disadvantage in the second half, Sonoma State still led in shots (11-9), three of which came off the foot of Sara Studer. The Seawolves also led in corner kicks, 5-3, but couldn't convert on their chances in the box. Sciacqua made three saves in the contest while her counter part, SFSU's Annicia Jones, made five saves to secure her 23rd career shutout.

Sonoma State will look to get back to its winning ways when it travels to Humboldt State on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. for a matchup with the Lumberjacks. The Seawolves will then travel to Turlock to face CCAA North Division-leader Cal State Stanislaus on Sunday before returning home to host Cal State L.A. (Oct. 7) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (Oct. 9).
