DAVIS, Calif. -- Vincent Paganetti and Greg Eckstedt earned a pair of singles victories on Friday afternoon, but the Sonoma State men's tennis team played to a 5-2 season-opening loss to NCAA Division I UC Davis at the Marya Welch Tennis Center.  Both Paganetti and Eckstedt was forced to complete their wins via the third-set tiebreaker while fighting gusty wins in Davis.  While it was the first match for the Seawolves in 2012, the Aggies posted their first win in two matches this season.

Eckstedt, playing at the No. 4 position, took care of Josh Albert, despite losing the first set 2-6.  He then rebounded with a 6-3 win in the second set before earning the 10-3 decision in the tiebreaker.  Paganetti, meanwhile, despite constant resistance by his opponent, dispatched Alec Haley at the No. 5 position with scores of 7-5, 5-7, 1-0 (8).

The duos of Daniel Henke/Matt Roberts and Seth Hein/David Hutton, played tough at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions, respectively, but eventually fell by an identical score of 8-6.

Sonoma State will now play three scrimmages, including a matchup with American River CC on Saturday at the SSU Tennis Courts at 1:00 p.m.  The Seawolves will continue their regular season schedule on Feb. 6 when they play host to Fresno Pacific, with first serve set for 1:30 p.m.
