CARSON, Calif. --
The Sonoma State women's soccer team peppered host Cal State Dominguez Hills all evening, holding a 19-6 advantage in shots, but the Toros capitalized on one of their six shots while keeping the Seawolves out of the net, allowing CSUDH to upset fifth-ranked SSU, 1-0, on Friday at the Home Depot Center's main stadium in Carson, Calif.

The Seawolves, who came into the match as the No. 5 team in the nation and the top-ranked team in the official west region poll released by the NCAA earlier this week, snap their six-match unbeaten streak in falling to 12-2-1 overall and 9-2-1 in the CCAA.  The Toros won just their fourth match of the season, rising to 4-9-2 and 3-9-1 in the conference.

It was a match dominated by Sonoma State from start to finish; it would hold an advantage in shots (19-8), shots on goal (7-2), corner kicks (5-1) and even drew 11 Cal State Dominguez Hills fouls to only five fouls whistled on SSU.  However, CSUDH would breakthrough for the 1-0 lead at 31:46 when Claudia Toledo passed across the face of the goalmouth where Olivia Patterson came sliding in to punch it past goalkeeper Alexis Sciacqua.  It would end the Seawolves' streak of six-straight shutouts; it also ended the streak of 623 minutes, 50 seconds that Sciacqua hadn't allowed a goal to be scored by an opponent.

In the final 58:14 of the match, the Toros took just three shots, including just one attempt in the second half.  While the defense held strong, the Sonoma State offense continued to put pressure on the Cal State Dominguez Hills backline, including Toro netminder Tiffany Hollis, who made seven big stops to keep SSU scoreless for the duration of the contest.

With continued pressure up front, the Seawolves gave themselves plenty of scoring chances, but two shots would ricochet off the crossbar and others would sail just beyond the posts to keep the Toros in the lead, and eventually the upset win.

Both Ashley Martin and Cara Curtin led Sonoma State with six shots each, including three on target by Martin.  Sciacqua needed to make just one save, but the goal given up in the 32nd minute ended up hurting the Seawolves.

Cal State Dominguez Hills got two shots from Patterson and from Lindsey Armstrong while Hollis made seven saves in the Toros victory.

Sonoma State will look to bounce back on Sunday when it travels over to Cal State L.A. to take on the Golden Eagles at 2:00 p.m.
