TURLOCK, Calif. --
Trailing 2-1 late in the second half, Anders Perez scored the equalizer in the 82nd minute, then Aaron Glover buried a shot into the back of the net on the tail end of a fast break in the 98th minute to give the Sonoma State men's soccer team a thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind victory over host Cal State Stanislaus at Warrior Stadium in Turlock on Sunday.

With the win, the Seawolves clinch their 21st winning season under SSU head coach Marcus Ziemer's 22-year tenure with the program, improving to 8-7-2 this season and 6-6-2 in the CCAA.  The Warriors sneak into next weekend's conference tournament as the No. 4 seed despite the loss that drops them to 9-4-3 (7-4-3 CCAA).  Sonoma State finished third in the North Division standings and has missed the CCAA tournament for the second straight season.

"I am really proud of the boys," said Ziemer.  "We never quit and kept battling from behind.  It felt good to be the fresh team in a Sunday contest for a change, it's been the opposite all season."

The Seawolves would be outshot 22-16 in the match, including a 12-6 disadvantage in the opening half.  However, SSU allowed just one goal in the first 45 minutes, a strike from the Warriors' Josue Barajas at 24:19.  Six minutes later, Taylor Varnadore converted a penalty kick to knot the match at 1-1.  Neither team would score again until five minutes into the second half when Cal State Stanislaus took a 2-1 lead at 50:08.

The second half continued to be a see-saw battle, but Perez put the Seawolves right back into the ballgame with a goal at 81:18.  Glover then followed with a pair of shots several minutes later, but both would fly wide.  The Warriors came back with fury in the final minutes, attempting four shots, but two would be blocked, one would sail wide and the other went high, as they would be the final chances by either team in regulation.

In the first overtime period, Cal State Stanislaus would get some opportunities early, but Sonoma State came through with the golden goal, a strike from Glover at 97:01 to stun the Warriors on their Senior Day.

"The seniors really stepped up for us today," Ziemer added.  "For most of the second half, our midfield consisted of Cory Taufer, Brian Angel and Jomed Tejan, while Frank Becerril played at right back."

Beau Diaz made five saves in the victory, including one in the extra period.  His counterpart, Clint Long, had to make just one save, but allowed three balls past him.  The game also featured 13 yellow cards and three red cards.  Dylan Stafford accumulated two yellows in the first 13 minutes, forcing Sonoma State to play a man down until Cal State Stanislaus' Josh Handley picked up his second yellow of the day, forcing his ejection from the match at 67:37.  Cory Taufer would also pick up two yellows on the day, his second coming midway through the overtime period, just two minutes before Glover ended the match with his game-winner.

Sonoma State will wrap up the 2012 season on Tuesday with a non-conference match at Cal State East Bay, set to kickoff at 5:00 p.m. in Hayward.
