BOX SCORE #13 Sonoma State 2, Cal State San Bernardino 0 -- Box Score

ROHNERT PARK --
Cara Curtin and Ashley Martin both scored first half goals in a span of four and a half minutes and the defense surrendered just six shots, including two on target that Alexis Sciacqua kept out of the net, helping the 13th-ranked Sonoma State women's soccer team to its 10th win of the season with a 2-0 victory over visiting Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday at the Seawolf Soccer Field.  The Seawolves (10-1-1, 7-1-1 CCAA) remain atop the North Division standings, four points ahead of second-place Cal State Stanislaus, who are currently in action at Cal State East Bay.  The Coyotes fall to 6-4-2 overall and 4-4-1 in conference play.

Curtin put Sonoma State ahead at 21:19 when she took a pass from Elena Catania, sprinted in behind the defense and blasted a shot into the right side of the net from 15 yards out.  Martin didn't waist any time to give the Seawolves some insurance, also finding the right side of the net after a pass from Megan Foy found her in the box.

SSU would continue to put pressure on Cal State San Bernardino throughout the half, outshooting the visitors 8-3.  The Seawolf defense continued to shine throughout the final 45 minutes of the match, allowing just three more shots by Coyote attackers, none of which came in the last 20 minutes of regulation.

With an 11-6 advantage in shots on Sunday, no Sonoma State player had more than two shots -- Curtin and Martin being those with a pair of attempts.  Margi Osmundson, JJ McFarlin, Foy, Sara Studer, Gretel Amman, Melissa Lafranchi and Alesha Laranjo also booted a shot towards the goal, keeping Coyote netminder Chelsey Jones on her toes for 90 minutes -- she made three stops.  Sciacqua, meanwhile, recorded her CCAA-leading seventh shutout of the year and the 17th of her career.

Sonoma State will play its final two home conference games on Thursday and Saturday of next week to coincide with the campus' Homecoming celebration, set to begin with Saturday's kickoff.  Thursday's matchup will pit the Seawolves against Cal State East Bay at 3:00 p.m. before Cal State Monterey Bay comes to town on Saturday with a 2:00 p.m. start time.

Of note, SSU will play one more home game after next weekend's contests, but the Oct. 26 match with Humboldt State, which will serve as Senior Day, will be considered as a non-conference game.
