FRESNO, Calif. --- Four Sonoma State University men's basketball players scored in double figures, led by 13 out of the hands of senior
Will Olsem, but the Seawolves couldn't find their offensive rhythm, falling to NCAA Division I Fresno State, 89-64, in a Sunday matinee at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif. It was the final non-conference game of the 2012-13 campaign for SSU, which falls to 4-4 on the year. The Bulldogs ended their four-game skid and improved to 6-7.
Fresno State built a 21-point lead (29-8) midway through the first half, which Sonoma State closed to a six-point deficit twice in the final minute of the half before a final basket by the Bulldogs' Tyler Johnson gave the Bulldogs a 43-35 halftime lead over the Seawolves.
The Bulldogs built it back to an 18-point advantage at 58-40, which Sonoma State cut to 10 at 60-50. Fresno State then rattled off a 10-0 run for another 18-point edge at 68-50 and cruised to the closing buzzer.
CSUF's Johnson led all scorers with a career-high 25 points on 9-of-12 from the floor and added eight rebounds and four assists. Marvelle Harris added a career-high 20 points on 7-of-9 on his field goal attempts to headline a 55 percent shooting showing by the Bulldogs. Kevin Olekaibe scored 15 points, which marked his 48th double-digit game of his three-year Fresno State career.
Will Olsem led four players in double figures for the Seawolves with 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including 3-of-7 from the three-point line.
Patrick Scott added 12 points, and
Steve Lackey and
Emmanuel Bradford scored 10 apiece.
Sonoma State will begin the new year with a Jan. 4 contest at CCAA-rival Chico State. Friday's tipoff from Acker Gymnasium is set for 7:30 p.m.
