UC Davis 7, Sonoma State 0 -- Box Score
DAVIS, Calif. -- Playing three NCAA Division I opponents to open the season, the Sonoma State men's tennis team knew that it would face tough competition, and Friday was no exception. The Seawolves dropped to 0-2 after being shutout, 7-0, by host UC Davis (1-1) at the Marya Welch Tennis Center in Davis.
Robert Henry and
David Hutton started off strong at No. 1 doubles and led 5-4, but Toki Sherbakov and Adam Levie took control and won the last four games to pull away for the 8-5 win in a spirited match by both pairs.
Jimmy Manning and
Seth Hein played tough at No. 3 doubles, but ultimately came away with the 8-4 loss, allowing the Aggies to take the lone doubles point.
In singles play,
Drexler Dy and
Ryan Harris played their opponents tough at the No. 2 and No. 4 positions, respectively, but both lost by identical scores of 6-4, 6-2. Both matches would be the closest of the day for the Seawolves, as the Aggies cruised the rest of the way for the win.
Sonoma State will play a rescheduled match against another Division I opponent in Saint Mary's in Moraga on Monday at 3:30 p.m.; the originally scheduled match between the Seawolves and Gaels last Wednesday was postponed due to rain.
