BOX SCORE #18 Sonoma State 3, Cal State East Bay 1 -- Box Score

HAYWARD, Calif. --
Gabby Squarcia scored with just two seconds before halftime before Alicia Mertz and Lauren Curtin added goals early in the second half to propel the 18th-ranked Sonoma State women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over host Cal State East Bay on Friday night in Hayward.  The Seawolves improve to 11-3-3 overall and 9-3-3 in the CCAA while the Pioneers stumble to 4-11-2 (4-9-2 CCAA).

It was a lopsided affair throughout as Sonoma State peppered the Cal State East Bay defense with shot after shot after shot.  In fact, the Seawolves were outshooting the Pioneers 15-0 before Squarcia took the rebound off of an L.Curtin shot just one second prior and finished into the net to put the visitors up 1-0 at the intermission.

In the second half, Cal State East Bay was finally able to attempt a shot, but not until the 52:32 mark, at which point Sonoma State had already recorded 17 of their own.  Not long after CSUEB's first shot, SSU put another ball into the net, this time by Mertz, who took a pass from L.Curtin for the 2-0 lead at 53:15.  A little more than seven minutes later, L.Curtin, who assisted on the two previous goals, scored one of her own after a breakaway, 1-v-1 with Pioneer goalkeeper Donna Williams to put the Seawolves up 3-0.

CSU East Bay eventually put one up on the scoreboard when Ariana Gordon headed in a cross pass from Danielle Cummings for her first goal of the season at 67:03, but it would be all they could muster as Sonoma State grabbed the 3-1 win to spoil the Pioneers' senior day.

The Seawolves held a 26-6 advantage in shots, including the aforementioned 16-0 margin in the opening half.  L.Curtin attempted eight of them, followed by five off the foot of Cara CurtinAllison Hadidian made two saves in the victory.

Sonoma State will wrap up the regular season on Sunday when it travels to Arcata to take on Humboldt State at 11:30 am.
