BOX SCORE Sonoma State 3, San Francisco State 0 -- Box Score
SAN FRANCISCO -- Following a scoreless first half, the Sonoma State women's soccer team busted out early in the second with three goals in under eight minutes to lead the Seawolves to a 3-0 win over San Francisco State on Friday in the CCAA opener for both squads. The Seawolves got a goal and an assist from freshman
Kristal Luna as they stayed unbeaten and unscored upon in their first three games of the year. The Seawolves (3-0-0, 1-0-0 CCAA) have outscored their opponents 11-0 so far this season. San Francisco State falls to 1-1-1, 0-1-0 CCAA.
Though they carried a decisive 9-0 lead in shots into the break, the Seawolves couldn't find their way through the posts in the first half. Things changed quickly, though, in the second.
Sonoma's first strike came on a breakaway as Luna fed
Lauren Fryer for her first goal of the season, just 20 seconds into the half. Just two minutes and forty seconds later, Luna was in the middle of things again, this time netting her first collegiate goal off a Sonoma free kick.
JJ McFarlin and
Midge Minton earned assists for setting up the score.
The dagger came under five minutes later when the Curtin twins teamed up for the game's third goal. Lauren fed her sister Cara, who fired one into the upper right part of the net. It was the second goal of the season for the Cara and the third assist already for Lauren.
Sonoma State's defense turned in yet another fine effort. Unscored upon through 270 minutes this season, the final score resulted in the second straight shutout for freshman goalkeeper
Allison Hadidian, who made three saves.
The Seawolves outshot the Gators 22-7 in the match and had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Friday's win was the first for the Seawolves in San Francisco since 2007. Sonoma leads the all-time series 36-14-9 and is 19-3-2 overall since the start of the 2012 season.
Sonoma State will head to Seaside on Sunday afternoon to take on Cal State Monterey Bay. The Otters (2-1-0, 1-0-0 CCAA) were a 5-2 winner over Humboldt State on Friday.
