HAYWARD, Calif. --
Alicia Mertz and Cara Curtin each scored their team-leading fifth goals of the season as the 15th-ranked Sonoma State women's soccer team remained unbeaten with Sunday's 2-0 shutout of host Cal State East Bay at Pioneer Stadium in Hayward.  The Seawolves rise to 5-0-1 overall and remain tied atop the CCAA North Division with Cal State Stanislaus at 3-0-1 in conference action.  The Pioneers stumble to 1-5-0 (1-3-0 CCAA).

Off of a pass from Melissa Lafranchi, Mertz found the net at 36:22 to put the visitors up 1-0.  It was a relatively quiet first half as both teams combined for just eight shots, four by each squad.  In the final 45 minutes, SSU held a slight shot advantage (5-3) and the fourth shot of the period came after Curtin sprinted up the field on a breakaway, beating Pioneer netminder Donna Williams for the 2-0 lead at 80:59.

While the Seawolves outshot the Pioneers 9-7 on Sunday, six of the seven CSUEB attempts were on target, but all were saved by SSU freshman Allison Hadidian.  Hadidian continues a stellar start to her career, notching her third shutout of the season.  Her counterpart, Williams, made four stops on the other end of the pitch.

Six of the nine shots taken by Sonoma State came off the foot of Curtin, Mertz had two and Midge Minton had the other.

Originally scheduled to play Sunday's match at the Seawolf Soccer Field, Sonoma State and Cal State East Bay were forced to move the match to Hayward due to heavy rain Saturday morning that made the Seawolves' home field unplayable.  Therefore, the Nov. 1 match between the two teams originally scheduled to be played in Hayward will be relocated to Rohnert Park, times are yet to be determined.

Sonoma State will head south next weekend to play a pair of CCAA South Division opponents in Cal Poly Pomona (Friday, 7:00 pm) and UC San Diego (Sunday, 2:30 pm).
