ROHNERT PARK -- Kristina Fahey scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds, but the Sonoma State women's basketball team committed 22 turnovers and hit on 33.3 percent of its shots, resulting in a 66-45 loss to visiting Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday night at The Wolves. Den. The Seawolves have lost six straight games, falling to 2-12 overall and 1-9 in the CCAA. The Coyotes move to 4-9 (3-7 CCAA).
Sonoma State never led in the contest, but forced three ties, the last being at the 7:06 mark of the first half after a layup by
Sydney Bennett to knot the game at 16-all. Cal State San Bernardino then reeled off five straight points to lead 21-16. A jumper by
Tanner Adams ended the small Coyote run, but CSUSB continued to pull away, scoring five more unanswered points to lead by eight at 26-18. With a five-point deficit going into the second half,
Hannah Sourek hit a jumper to start the period and put SSU down by three once again at 26-23, but that's as close as the hosts would get as the Coyotes eventually took their largest lead of the game of 22 points (60-38) with 5:13 to play in the game.
Fahey was the only Seawolf in double figures and was one rebound from notching her first double-double of the season. However, she turned the ball over seven times, accounting for seven of the 22 by SSU on Saturday. Adams chipped in with nine points, followed by
Famh Fong with seven points. As a team, Sonoma connected on 15 of 45 shots (33.3 percent), including 4 for 12 from beyond three-point range.
Adriana Brodie led all players with 14 points for Cal State San Bernardino. Jazzmyn Davis recorded a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while Tayllor Gipson also added 12 points in the Coyotes' victory. CSUSB was 26 of 63 from the floor, a 41.3 percent clip.
Sonoma State will hit the road for four games, starting with a Friday night bout with Cal State East Bay in Hayward. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
