Women's Hoops Suffers Ninth Consecutive Defeat Friday Night

BOX SCORE Chico State 79, Sonoma State 45 -- Box Score

CHICO, Calif. --
The Sonoma State women's basketball team continues its downward spiral as it opened up the second half of the conference schedule with a 79-45 loss to Chico State on Friday night at Acker Gymnasium in Chico.  The Seawolves have lost nine straight -- the longest such streak since the 1988-89 season -- to stumble to 2-15 overall and 1-12 in the CCAA.  The Wildcats, meanwhile, improve to 12-5 and 8-5 in conference action.

Host Chico State led the entire way, scoring the first five points of the contest, but Sonoma State stayed within 10 points for the majority of the first half and trailed by nine (37-28) going into halftime.  Early in the second half, Molly Kommer drained a three-pointer to get within eight points at 43-35 with 16:14 remaining, but that's when the Wildcats sped away to outscore the Seawolves 36-8 over the next 14 minutes and capture a convincing 34-point win.

Kristina Fahey led Sonoma with 12 points, adding five rebounds and three assists.  Famh Fong chipped in with eight points, followed by seven from Hannah Sourek.  The Seawolves shot just 29.1 percent from the floor (16 for 55), including just 24.1 percent in the second half (7 for 29) -- it is the third straight game that SSU has shot less than 30 percent.

Four players netted double-figures for Chico State, led by the 15 points off the bench from Hannah Womack.  Jazmine Miller (14), Analise Riezebos (13) and Sarah Rebibo (13) also scored more than 10.  The Wildcats hit 40.4 percent of their shots (23 for 57) and was 24 for 27 from the free throw line, an 88.9 percent efficiency.

Sonoma State will play one final road game -- Saturday at Cal State Stanislaus tipping off at 5:30 pm -- before it will play six of its final eight games of the 2013-14 season at home.
