ROHNERT PARK, Calif. -- A spirited second half comeback that got Sonoma State within two points turned out not to be enough on Friday as Cal State L.A. pulled away in the final minutes for a 66-54 win in CCAA women's basketball action at The Wolves' Den in Rohnert Park.  While the Seawolves had four in double digits and committed a season-low for turnovers, it wasn't enough for an upset of the second place Golden Eagles.

The loss drops Sonoma State to 3-16 overall and 2-13 in CCAA play.  Cal State L.A. moves into a three-way tie for second place at 13-6, 10-5 CCAA.

Cal State L.A. led for most of the first half, building up an 11-point lead with a minute to go in the frame.  In the second half, the lead would get as big as 13, at 43-30, before Sonoma State used a 7-0 run to cut it to six.  Down nine a few minutes later, the Seawolves supplied another big run, reeling off 9 of the next 11 to get the margin down to two, 53-51, with 6:22 to go.

Unfortunately, that's where their run would end, as the Seawolves scored just three points the rest of the way while Cal State L.A. poured in 13.  The Seawolves would commit just nine turnovers in the game, though three of them came down the strech, in the game's final four and a half minutes.

Taylor Acosta paced the Seawolves with 14 points on 6 of 18 shooting. Joining Acosta in double digits were Tanner Adams (12), Bronte Sheahan (12), and Kristina Fahey (10).  Sheahan also had seven rebounds and she shared the team high with four assists (Acosta). 

Paige Melville had 16 points to lead Cal State L.A.  Destinee La Fountain had a big night, finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds.

The Seawolves return to action on Saturday night when they host Cal State Dominguez Hills for Pack The Den Night.
