Men's Tennis Blanked At No. 12 UC San Diego On Sunday

LA JOLLA, Calif. -- The 12-th ranked UC San Diego men's tennis team had no trouble with 48th-ranked Sonoma State on Sunday as it rolled to a dominating 9-0 victory at Northview Courts in La Jolla.  The Seawolves fall to 2-8 on the year while the Tritons jump to 10-6.

UCSD went up 3-0 by sweeping the doubles matches. At. No. 1, Max Jiganti and Kona Luu defeated Matt Roberts and Phillip Holbrook by a score of 8-6. In the second slot, Horea Porutiu and Alexandre Miaule downed Jimmy Manning and Seth Hein, 8-4. Rajeev Herekar and Mark Meyer defeated Logan Liddell and Robert Henry with a tiebreaker at No. 3, taking the victory with a score of 9-8.

The 12th-ranked Tritons won all six singles matches.

At No. 1, Jiganti put UCSD up 4-0 by dispatching Roberts, 6-1 and 7-6. The win was clinched when Ganesh Alagappan topped Daniel Holz, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 at No. 3.

Also earning singles wins were Herekar at No. 2, Miaule at No. 4, Meyer at No. 5 and Andrew Malozsak at No. 6.

Sonoma State will return home on Saturday to host Hawaii Hilo at 10:00 am at the SSU Tennis Courts.
