ROHNERT PARK -- After winning two out of three doubles matches, the Sonoma State men's tennis ran the table in singles play to earn an 8-1 win over visiting Hawaii-Hilo on Saturday in Rohnert Park. The Seawolves got straight set victories in five of the six singles contests to cruise to their third win of the season. While the 48th-ranked Seawolves are 3-8 overall, their record against NCAA Division II opponents now stands at 3-4 and they are slotted 6th in the ITA West Region rankings.
While they picked up three wins in doubles, the Seawolves had to work for their points as the Vulcans made things interesting.
Matt Roberts and
Philip Holbrook secured an 8-5 win at No. 1,
Jimmy Manning and
Seth Hein won 8-6 at No. 2, and
Robert Henry teamed with
Logan Liddell to win 8-4 at No. 3.
Singles play went very smooth as
Vincent Paganetti earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 and Roberts won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1. Holbrook,
Daniel Holz, Henry, and Liddell contributed to the win in solo play.
The Seawolves will turn their sights to Tuesday, when they host Williamette University of Oregon.
