ROHNERT PARK -- The Sonoma State men's tennis team swept both singles and doubles on Tuesday on their way to a 9-0 win over visiting Willamette University at the SSU Tennis Courts in Rohnert Park. The Seawolves shuffled their singles lineup and got stellar performances at the top from
Philip Holbrook at No. 1 and
Daniel Holz at No. 2 as they won their second straight match and improved to 4-8 on the year.
The Seawolves made fairly quick work of the Bearcats in doubles play getting 8-3 wins at No. 1 (Roberts/Holbrook) and No. 3 (Liddell/Henry).
Jimmy Manning and
Seth Hein won their No. 2 doubles match 8-4.
Without the services of No. 1 singles player
Matt Roberts and No. 4
Robert Henry, the Seawolves didn't miss a beat. Stepping up to the top court for the first time in his collegiate career, Holbrook, a freshman from Napa, won 6-1, 6-0.
Daniel Holz was also a dominant winner, taking a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2.
Logan Liddell, up two spots from his familiar No. 5 position, won a third-set tiebreaker to preserve the shutout.
Vincent Paganetti (No. 4),
Seth Hein (No. 5), and
Jimmy Manning, in his first singles action of the year at No. 6, also won.
Weather permitting, the Seawolves will take on another NCAA Division III school from Oregon on Wednesday afternoon when Lewis & Clark comes to town.
