(Written by Aryssa Carvalho, SSU Sports Information Intern)

LOS ANGELES -- The Sonoma State volleyball team traveled to Cal State L.A. on Friday to face off with the Golden Eagles in what turned out to be a vigorous four-set match. Down two sets to none, the Seawolves rallied in the third set, winning 25-19, but fell short in the fourth game and lost their chances of taking home the win in losing 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 19-25, 25-22).  Sonoma drops to 2-3 this season while CSULA goes to 3-1.

The Seawolves almost won the first set, being in the lead most of the frame, but lost control at the end. The teams were tied towards the end, 23-23, but the Golden Eagles won after two kills in a row, leaving the Seawolves defeated 25-23 and down 1-0 in the match.

The teams were close throughout the second set, but victory fell through the Seawolves' hands. A kill by Caylie Seitz kept Sonoma afloat at the end, giving the team an extra point before losing the set 25-21.

The Seawolves were victorious in the third set, thanks to their most efficient set of the night, hitting .367 with 15 kills and just four errors en route to a 25-19 win to cut the Golden Eagles match lead in half at 2-1.

The fourth set went back and forth kill after kills from both teams. SSU and CSULA were tied 20-20 and continued to battle neck and neck until the Golden Eagles swooped five out of the next seven points, ending the set with a 25-22 win and the 3-1 match victory.

Seitz finished the night with 22 kills and a .238 hitting percentage to lead all hitters.  Madelyn Densberger slammed 11 kills to the floor, adding a game-high 19 digs.  The Seawolves, however, were held to just .179 on offense while the Golden Eagles hit .221.  Iona Lofrano amassed for 19 kills to lead the hosts.

Sonoma State looks to rebound on Saturday when it travels to Cal State Dominguez Hills for a 7:00 pm match at the Torodome in Carson, Calif.
