#17 Seawolves Claw Wildcats In CCAA Quarterfinal, 3-0

2015 CCAA Volleyball Championship Central

LA JOLLA, Calif. --
Behind 14 kills and a .550 hitting percentage from the CCAA Player of the Year Caylie Seitz and nine kills, a .571 hitting percentage and six blocks from Rachel Andrews, the 17th-ranked and No. 1 seed Sonoma State women's volleyball team cruised to its 20th consecutive victory -- and its ninth consecutive sweep -- with a 3-0 win (25-21, 25-16, 25-22) over No. 8 seed Chico State in Thursday's CCAA Championship Tournament quarterfinal at RIMAC Arena in La Jolla.

The Seawolves rise to 24-3 this season and the Wildcats see their season come to an end with a 17-14 record.

Sonoma hit .273 as a team despite opening up the match with a .140 clip in the first set.  The Seawolves rebounded with hitting percentages above .300 in sets two and three to sweep away Chico.  The SSU defense, led by the CCAA's Libero of the Year Kaitlyn Connolly and her match-high 16 digs, held Chico to just .098 on offense, marking the fourth straight match (and the seventh time in their last nine matches) that the Seawolves have held an opponent under .100.

Chico State was led by the 10 kills from senior Shannon Boling in her final collegiate match while Anna Baytosh chipped in with nine.

Sonoma State will take on No. 4 seed Cal Poly Pomona in the CCAA semifinals on Friday at 5:00 pm.  The Broncos (17-12) defeated No. 5 seed San Francisco State in the first match of the day, 3-1.  Sonoma and Pomona faced each other once this season; the Seawolves swept the Broncos 3-0 back on Sept. 19th in Pomona.
