HOLUA, Hawaii – Philip Holbrook took an early lead at No. 1 singles, but after a couple of tough battles in the next two sets, he suffered the loss as the No. 46 Sonoma State men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to No. 19 BYU-Hawaii on Thursday afternoon at the Holua Tennis Center.

On the first singles court, No. 40 Yevhen Zakharov defeated Seawolf Philip Holbrook in a tight 2-6, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (7) match. No. 43 Martin Chojnacki played a 6-1, 6-2 match over Daniel Holz.

Ibrahim Karmadzha overcame Noah Lee 6-1, 7-6 (4) and teammate Wei-Feng Lee defeated Blaine Mengert in a 6-4, 6-3 match. Another win (6-1, 6-4) came from Peng Dai over Vincent Paganetti. Taylor De Hoyas continued the Seasider control with a 7-6 (4), 6-3 match versus Matt Weeber.

No. 6 power pairing Chojnakci and Zakharov beat their Seawolf opponents in straight games 8-0. Dai and Lee produced another win with an 8-5 match. Karmadzha and Colton Pate closed out doubles play with an 8-2 victory over the Seawolves.

Sonoma State will play the second of three matches in Hawaii on Friday, going to battle against Hawaii Hilo at 11:00 am.
