SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Blaine Mengert won both of his matches -- a 9-7 decision with teammate Logan Liddell at No. 2 doubles and a 6-3, 3-6, 10-3 triumph at No. 4 singles -- but the 43rd-ranked Sonoma State men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to No. 42 Point Loma on Friday afternoon in San Diego.  The Seawolves fall to 1-7 this season while the Sea Lions rise to 3-4.

While Mengert and Liddell outlasted Point Loma's No. 2 doubles tandem by the score of 9-7, Matt Weeber and Sullivan Roche fell on the losing end of an identical 9-7 score at No. 3 doubles and the Seawolves would enter singles play down 2-1.

The Sea Lions would then clinch the match victory with five singles wins, four of them in straight sets.  Noah Lee fought hard at No. 3 singles, forcing tiebreakers in each set, but ultimately lost 7-6 (3), 7-6 (5) for PLNU's seventh point.  Mengert won his first set at No. 4, 6-3, lost the second 3-6 to force the 10-point tiebreaker, only to prevail 10-3 for the Seawolves second point.

Sonoma State will return home to host its Alumni Match on Mar. 8 at 12 pm before hosting Point Loma two days later on Mar. 10 at 12:30 pm.
