Turpin Spins Four-Hitter In Seawolf 3-0 Shutout of Pioneers

ROHNERT PARK -- Haydon Turpin threw seven scoreless innings and got three runs of support and grabbed his second win of the season (2-2) in a 3-0  Sonoma State  victory over Cal State East Bay Thursday at Seawolf Diamond. It only took one hour and 38 minutes for the Seawolves to gain their 12th CCAA victory against 13 defeats. Their overall record is now 18-16. The Pioneers fall to 4-17 in the conference and 7-21 overall.

There was no scoring until the bottom of the third when Jourdan Weiks doubled to left field with two outs to put himself in scoring position for Alex Crosby. Crosby hit a groundball to the shortstop, which saw the ball skip of his glove into centerfield allowing Weiks to score on the fielding error and make it 1-0. Crosby would steal second base with Cody Morris up and Morris would send Crosby with the second Seawolf run on a single to centerfield.

The Seawolves would get their third run when Dustyn Macaluso tripled to left field followed by a Weiks double. The pitching of Turpin and the two-inning save (2) by Gerald Jamerson would make the lead stick. Turpin only allowed four hits in his seven innings of work, while striking out two and allowing one walk. Jamerson allowed one hit in his two innings.

Weiks and Devin Alexander each went 2 for 4 on the day with Weiks adding an RBI and run to his stat line. Alex Crosby had a hit in four plate appearances and his first stolen base of the season.

Michael Pope went the distance for the Pioneers and allowed one earned run on eight hits.
